Manila wins nat’l Frisbee tourney

VisMin teams to unite for Manila Spirits in November

Defending champions Manila Roaches retained their title in the recently concluded 2^nd Ultimate Shindig ’08: the Dumaguete Ultimate Frisbee Tournament at the Perdices Coliseum in Dumaguete.

In a grueling final showdown with home team Dumaguete Extreme Black, the Manila Roaches were a perfect picture of teamwork and synergy brought about by a long time of playing together.

The Roaches emerged overall winners among ten teams and over a hundred Frisbee players from all over the country. The Dumaguete Extreme Black placed 2^nd and the Boracay Dragons placed 3^rd.

Manila’s Christian Guerrero and Dumaguete’s Bea Belciña were named the tournament’s most valuable players while the Mythical Seven were composed of players from Boracay Dragons, Cuernos de Negros, Manila Roaches and Dumaguete Extreme.

The Negros Oriental Provincial Government, through the Sports and Cultural Facilities Management Board, supported the tournament for the first time, and its chairman, Ms. Glynda Descuatan, vowed that it will be an annual event, and has already been placed in the provincial calendar.


Other sponsors included Globe, Payag sa Likod, Stufu, Sun Signs and Graphics, SkyCable and Killerbee FM.
“The event was very much a success, especially in terms of the fun and camaraderie the Frisbee players were able to experience,” said JJ Orden, one of the organizers this year. “In fact, players from Cebu, Iligan and Dumaguete are planning to join as one team in this November’s Manila Spirits.”


The Manila Spirits International Frisbee Tournament started in 2003 and is organized by the Philippine Ultimate Association.


“The team will tentatively be called ‘Bisdak’, and will hopefully strengthen our love for the sport and improve our game,” he added.
